Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Indie Game Fan ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you visit indiegame.fan or use its features (the "Site").

You can browse the Site without creating an account. Some features, including voting, community contributions, and personalized Steam library tools, use the information described below.

1. Information We Handle

The information we handle depends on how you use the Site:

  • Basic usage data. Our hosting and analytics providers may process request and device information such as pages visited, timestamps, referrers, approximate location, browser, operating system, device type, and IP address used for security and network delivery.
  • Votes and browser data. We store vote choices, preferences, and tutorial state in your browser. For anonymous game-status voting, the Site creates a random browser identifier and stores only a one-way hash of it with the submitted vote on our server.
  • Steam-linked account data. If you choose to sign in with Steam, we may store your Steam ID, public profile details, an optional Indie Game Fan username, and a hashed session token. If your Steam library is public and you sync it, we may also store owned-game IDs, playtime, platform playtime, and last-played dates.
  • Community contributions. If you submit a proposed correction or other contribution, we store the submission, related game and field details, your account ID and username, review status, and timestamps.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site; authenticate accounts; sync Steam data you request; show library matches and personalized features; record votes; review contributions; prevent abuse; troubleshoot problems; and understand aggregate Site usage.

We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party targeted advertising.

3. Cookies, Local Storage, and Analytics

When you sign in, we use essential first-party cookies to keep you signed in and to display your signed-in state. These cookies may last for up to 30 days unless you sign out earlier. The Site also uses local or session storage for votes, an anonymous voter identifier, preferences, tutorial state, and navigation state.

We use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement. Vercel states that Web Analytics does not use cookies and records anonymous page-view data that is not tied to an individual or IP address.

4. When Information Is Shared

We use service providers to run the Site, including Vercel for hosting and analytics, Supabase for hosted data storage, and Steam for optional sign-in and library synchronization. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer. Public contribution summaries may display the username you chose.

5. Retention and Your Choices

We keep account, Steam-link, vote, and contribution records for as long as reasonably needed to provide the related feature, maintain the integrity of community records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. You can avoid account collection by browsing without linking Steam, limit Steam library data by keeping your library private or not syncing it, remove browser-stored data through your browser settings, and end the current session by signing out.

6. Access, Correction, and Deletion

You may contact us to ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information associated with your Indie Game Fan account. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and we may retain limited information when required by law or for legitimate security, fraud-prevention, or record-integrity purposes.

7. Children, Security, and International Processing

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Our providers may process information in countries other than your own, where privacy laws may differ.

8. External Links

The Site links to Steam, Discord, and other third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.

9. Changes and Contact

We may update this policy as the Site or legal requirements change. We will post revisions here and update the date above. For privacy questions or requests, contact erik@indiegames.fan.
