About the Game

Dig deep. The water bill won't wait.

You Can't Drink Gold is an active incremental mining roguelite. They say there is water at the bottom of this mine. Until you get there, every drop costs gold.

Seventy layers of dirt and rock stand in the way, packed with gems, buried treasure, explosive surprises and six mysterious keys. Dig as deep as your tools can reach. The only limit is how hard the rock bites back.

You don't click to dig

Left-click for the shovel, right-click for the pickaxe. Tools swing on their own, at their own rhythm, wherever your cursor rests. Hold still to drill deep. Sweep across to carve wide. No wrist strain, no button mashing: just steer and let them work.

Watch what you uncover

The deeper you go, the weirder the rock gets. Careful where you swing: unearthing gunpowder will blow a crater right in your face. Rocks change color as you dig. Some spit gold with every hit, some leave the ground burning hot, some burst into a shower of nuggets. Trigger chain reactions and uncover things you definitely didn't plan for.

Every five rounds, the water bill arrives

Gold is everywhere down here, but you can't drink gold. Each round lasts as long as your canteen holds water. Every five rounds the bill arrives: it never gets cheaper, and it does not negotiate. Pay up, or your run is over.

Melt, socket & experiment

Between rounds, head to the workshop. Melt three matching gems into a better one, find new gear, and socket gems to craft your build. The fun part? What a gem does depends entirely on which piece of equipment you put it in...

Skills & permanent legacy

Spend your hard-earned gold on an 84-node skill tree with four branches, unique perks and 18 wild abilities. And when thirst finally catches up to you? Bankruptcy isn't the end. Buried bones fund permanent upgrades, and your museum survives every lost run.
