About the Game

Welcome to VHS World — the best little video rental store in town. Or it will be, once you can see the floor again.

The Grand Opening

It's 1989. You've got the keys to a video store, a wall of empty shelves, and all 3,360 tapes stacked in one enormous heap in the middle of the room. There's only one way to open for business: pick them up, one by one, and put every last cassette where it belongs.

How It Plays

VHS World '89 is a calm, first-person organizing simulator. Grab a tape, look at its cover art and title, work out its genre, and slot it onto the right shelf.

  • Sort by genre across 14 departments — Action, Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Drama, Kids, Romance, Thriller, Western, Fantasy, Adventure, Sports, Crime and Anime

  • Read the covers. Every tape is a hand-made parody of a movie you almost recognize

  • Watch the mess disappear. The floor empties, the shelves fill, and a chaotic pile slowly becomes a store you're proud of

Earn Points, Unlock Skills

Every tape you shelve correctly earns points. Spend them on upgrades and become the fastest clerk in town.

No Timers. No Pressure.

There's no clock, no score to beat, no game over. Sort for five minutes or five hours, at your own pace, to the soft hum of a video store after dark. Put on some music and rewind to a simpler time.
