Unknown Operations: The Habitus
is a story-driven, single-player, first-person tactical shooter set during World War II. In the game, you take on the role of Eduard Pěnkava, a soldier and later an agent of the secret organization Habitus, fighting not only against the Nazis but also for the safety of his loved ones and higher ideals. The story combines fictional and historical characters and events to create an intense and captivating experience.
Key Features:
Historical Inspiration: Missions are inspired by real events, such as the Battle of Czajankova Barracks or the Operation of the Three Kings. The game features accurate models of weapons and certain vehicles from World War II.
Vehicle and Static Weapon Control: Take the wheel of tanks, trucks, or cars, or operate heavy machine guns and cannons to turn the tide of battle.
Compelling Story: A narrative filled with espionage, sabotage, and moral dilemmas, told retrospectively from an interrogation room of the secret police.
Intense Gameplay: Destroy enemy bases, adapt to changing environments, and strategize on the battlefield with realistic ballistics and destructible environments.
NPC Interaction: Engage with characters through a dialogue system and uncover key information that influences the story's progression.
Advanced AI: NPCs dynamically respond to situations using the Utility AI system, adding realism to the gameplay.
Dynamic Environment: Experience changing weather, day-night cycles, and interactive environmental elements that immerse you in the war atmosphere.
Historical Authenticity:
The game emphasizes the accuracy of weapons and certain vehicles, but due to the constraints faced by a solo developer, not all building models and clothing are fully historically accurate. Nevertheless, the game strives to convey an authentic sense of the wartime conflict and its atmosphere.
Story:
The protagonist, Eduard Pěnkava, begins his journey as a young soldier who soon becomes entangled in events that go beyond ordinary wartime conflicts. From the defense of Czajankova Barracks to sabotage missions targeting secret German projects, Pěnkava becomes a key figure in the secret organization Habitus. Along his path, he encounters love, betrayal, and moral dilemmas, with every decision shaping the course of the war.
Technical Graphics Information
The game is built using Unreal Engine 5.8 and takes advantage of modern rendering technologies, including Lumen, Nanite, and MegaLights.
Lumen
Lumen provides dynamic global illumination and reflections. The game also supports Hardware Ray Tracing (HWRT), which is disabled by default. Players with compatible graphics cards can enable it manually in the graphics settings.
The individual graphics quality presets use the following modes:
Epic: Full-quality Lumen using either Software Ray Tracing or Hardware Ray Tracing, depending on the player’s settings
High: Optimized full Lumen using either Software Ray Tracing or Hardware Ray Tracing, depending on the player’s settings
Medium: Lumen Lite, a less demanding version of dynamic global illumination
Low: Lumen is disabled
On the Low preset, the quality of indirect lighting and reflections is significantly reduced. As a result, dark interiors and nighttime environments may appear darker, and some details may be less visible.
Nanite
Nanite is used for assets where it provides a meaningful advantage in visual quality or performance. Other assets use traditional optimized models with multiple Levels of Detail (LODs).
Nanite uses virtualized geometry and automatically renders only the amount of geometric detail required for the current view.
MegaLights
The game uses MegaLights to render dynamic lights and shadows. MegaLights is a separate direct-lighting system and may use ray tracing or Virtual Shadow Maps, depending on the configuration of individual lights.
