About the Game

An evil witch is abducting people across the Falcon Duchy and is using them for horrific rituals. Join Vance and Skye, two mercenaries, as they seek to end her tyranny of evil.

Features

  • A detailed grid-based combat system, which incorporates formation changes, front and back rows, and area of effect abilities and spells. You have full control over the party's initial placement in battle, and they can move once per turn.

  • Most melee weapons can only hit the front line, but missile weapons, spells, and some abilities can hit almost any foe you wish.

  • Tons of weapons, armor, necklaces, rings, and more, to build the characters the way you want. Special gems boost the powers of your favorite skills, but you can only wear two at a time!

  • A complex storyline full of twists and turns. Allies will become enemies, and vice-versa. Trials of Tenebrae explores themes of nihilism, family, the meaning of life, and dealing with trauma.

  • Five playable characters, which are completely customizable. Focus on ice magic, explosives, shield proficiency, lockpicking, and anything in between.

  • Four difficulty levels which can be changed any time you're out of battle.

  • Over a hundred unique, hand-crafted battles to take part in. No two fights are the same.

  • Charming graphics in the style of the late 90s and early 2000s classics.

  • Status effects, bonuses, and penalties will help or hinder you during the journey. Mouseover a character or enemy, and all of their statuses will be explained in an easy to read pop-up.

  • Powerful spells will take time to cast, and Free Actions are special abilities that allow a character to instantly act again. Some fights will grant the heroes temporary abilities that are vital to winning.

  • Trials of Tenebrae is a linear adventure focusing on battles, dialogue and cutscenes, and visiting merchants to outfit your party. There is no grinding, so pick your characters' skills wisely!

  • Characters that deal (and heal) the most damage will have the enemy's attention, or aggro. To help tweak aggro management in your favor, a variety of options are available, like the Ring of Pacifism, or the skill, Callout.

  • Choose your actions carefully. Some decisions will have repercussions later!

Characters

Vance

Vance is a captain of the Guineverian Guardians. His life changes when his home is attacked by demons, and he travels, looking to quench the rage forever burning in his heart. Gruff and a bit greedy, Vance will stop at nothing to achieve his primary goal. Vance has recently become Favoured, gaining the divine blessing of Ishtan, God of Endurance and the Sun.

Skye

Quiet and distant, Skye is Vance's traveling companion and best friend. Having renounced her title as a Guardian, she seeks to reuniite with her uncle, Owein, who lives at the border of the Falcon Duchy. Having not seen her uncle in months, Skye looks forward to catching up with the only family member she has left.
