About the Game

In This Little World, you work to rebuild Great Britain, following a devastating cataclysm. To reveal the mystery of what happened, you must collect tools and resources to regenerate the rivers, fields, forests, roads, and towns across the land, in a 1:1 recreation of the entire country, exquisitely recreated from real-world data, down to the individual buildings and trees. Beginning on foot, you'll unlock bicycles, cars, trucks, trains, boats, and aircraft to explore more than 200,000km² of England, Wales and Scotland, discovering the history, geography, and culture of the island.

Designed as a casual world (re)building game, underpinned by ecological themes and dark humour, This Little World features multiple game modes suiting explorers, builders, and detectives, using stunning ray-traced graphics, genuine British weather, and an entirely procedural soundtrack that provides an immersive and expansive experience of Britain's green-and-pleasant land - requiring you to use both your eyes and ears to solve the challenges before you.

Developed using the Unreal Engine 5 game engine, Manhattan procedural music editor (available on Steam), and Klang audio programming language, the game is designed as a platform users, artists, and developers can customise by adding their own music and sound effects, bringing rich, dynamic, interactive sound to every corner of Albion.

FEATURES

  • An epic story that blends discovery, mystery, philosophy, ecology, and a British sense of humour™ (largely sarcasm), dynamically interwoven with history, landmarks, and regional culture. Choose where you start and gradually regrow and rebuild the country - town by town, county by county - with a dynamic campaign and mission system drawing on local knowledge of the land.

  • Over 200,000km² of England, Wales, and Scotland, recreated in 1:1 ray-traced graphics from real-world data, including every hill, valley, village, town, building, road, path, river, lake, and even tree - generated in pure 3D using open data; no satellite or photogrammetry.

  • Dynamic day/night cycle, seasons, and British Weather system (not just rain), including simulated water cycle, where the player must regenerate rivers and lakes to bring life back to the once green-and-pleasant land, before the towns and cities can thrive.

  • Multiple game modes, including both open exploration, mini-games, and an immersive single-player campaign based on world-building and discovery, in which you must restore the land and infrastructure while unravelling the mystery of what befell the once Great land.

  • A range of quintessentially British vehicles*, including bicycles, motorbikes, cars, trains, planes, helicopters, balloons, boats, and ships, gradually unlocked as the story (and land) develops.

  • An entirely procedural soundtrack, showcasing innovative interactive audio technologies, where:

    • Music (powered by Manhattan) is driven by the game world, reflecting the state of the land, foreshadowing events, and providing clues to finding resources or solving objectives - dynamically changing as you move between areas, gaining harmony as the land does - with inspiration from artists ranging from Massive Attack to Vaughan Williams.

    • Sounds (powered by Klang) are dynamically synthesised, rather than pre-recorded; procedurally modelling everything from engines to ambient sounds like birds and weather that react authentically to how they behave in the changing world - enabling a richer, adaptive sonic performance.

    • New music and sounds can be developed by players, artists, and developers using Manhattan or Klang, placed in the game world and shared with others, creating an interactive tapestry of interactive music and sonic art that evolves over time, and an open resource for other game makers.
