About the Game

underworld. No food. No water. No road back to the living world.

When you are nearly at your limit, you find a camp of living people. They give you food and water, and then tell you an even crueler truth: this place is still only a forgotten corner of the Eighteenth Hell. Many have tried to leave. None have returned.

You can stay, surviving day after day under fear and despair. Or you can take up your weapon and step onto the road no one has ever finished.

“The Return” focuses on side-scrolling action combat, skill builds, artifact synergy, and hand-crafted room progression. The full game is planned to include a prologue and eighteen layers of hell, for a total of nineteen chapter nodes. Each main chapter with its own infernal theme, enemy set, visual motifs, and combat rhythm.

At the start of each run, choose one character, enter the underworld, collect spiritual essence, learn skills, obtain artifacts, and shape your build as the run unfolds.

Rewards in hell are not random gifts. They are remnants left behind by those who came before: rebels, the wrongly dead, and powerful beings swallowed by the underworld. By claiming these relics, you borrow the strength of past failures and grow from a mortal into someone capable of challenging the order of hell itself.

After the prologue, the eighteen layers of hell are planned around 3 enemy types and 1 boss per layer, creating 57 themed regular enemies and 18 major boss battles. From the Soul-Forging Furnace and Tongue-Ripping Hell to the Scissor Hell, Iron Tree Hell, Mirror of Sin, Mountain of Blades, River of Forgetfulness, Court of Judgment, and finally the Palace of Yama, each layer reveals more of the world through enemy ecology, distant monuments, instruments of punishment, and short boss dialogues.

As you climb through the layers, the truth slowly comes into focus: spiritual essence is not a natural resource. It is manufactured from living people who were never meant to die.

“The Return” is the path of the dead, but also the road by which the living fight their way back from hell.

You are not here to await judgment.

You are here to climb all the way up and ask Yama one question:

By what right?
