About the Game

The Many Misfortunes of Kyran Pierre Cadenza the First (and others) is a blend of ‘choose your own adventure’ style storytelling and grid-based strategy combat set within a satirical take on the traditional fantasy setting.

The Many Misfortunes consists of two main types of gameplay, 'Sword' and 'Quill' sequences.

Quill

One-half of the game is set within a tavern long after the events of the story have unfolded. Here, the player takes on the role of the bard, Kyran, telling the tale to an old friend and one of the heroes of the story itself.

Within these sequences, the player will engage with text-based, “choose-your-own-adventure” style scenarios, directly affecting how the story is told as well as which key moments they will get to relive within the 3D “Sword” gameplay.

Sword

The other half of the game unfolds within hand-crafted 3D levels wherein the player relives key moments of the tale being told.

Within our exploration sequences, the player will investigate detailed 3D environments to discover hidden items, interact with a diverse cast of NPCs as well as with various items within the world in order to overcome challenges and progress further into the story.

Within combat sequences, the player finds themselves swept up into tactical, turn-based combat. Here the player will need to use their wits alongside a range of unique character abilities, magical potions, and powerful augments in order to best their foes.

A Tale to Tell

The story itself places you in the shoes of a failed bard turned unpublished author, recounting a tale of past adventure with your companions. As you progress through the tale, you will make choices that influence how the story unfolds and play through key moments shaped by the path you have chosen to walk.
