The Crooked Hand

Dealt a bad hole card? Rub it between your palms and turn it into the card you need. Change its rank and suit to turn five-card stud in your favor. But nobody across the table plays fair either: read their faces, spot their tricks, learn a few of your own, and cheat your way to the top.

About the Game

DEVELOPER'S NOTE

I've always loved the Hong Kong gambling films of the 1990s. At their tables, victory was never just about luck. Some players could read an opponent, some switched cards under the table, and some pressed a bad card between their palms and willed it into the exact card they needed.

I kept wondering: why couldn't that be something you actually do in a game?

That question became The Crooked Hand. I didn't want card shaping to happen in a cutscene or as a passive effect. I wanted you to pick up your hole card, choose its rank and suit, and rub it into the card you need with your own hands.

DON'T JUST PLAY THE HAND YOU'RE DEALT

When your hole card isn't good enough, pick it up, choose a new rank and suit, and rub it into the card your hand needs. Make a pair, complete a straight, or turn a desperate final street into a winning hand.

Every change costs Power. The real question isn't whether you can change the card, but whether this hand is worth the cost.

READ THE PLAYER, NOT JUST THE CARDS

The players across the table have tricks of their own. One switches cards from a hidden stash. Another swaps your hole card when you look away. Some remember every card they've touched; others can peer straight into your hand.

Watch their faces and subtle movements. Test them with a bet. A smile when they make a move may be an act; the hesitation when you raise them is far more honest.

MASTER NEW TRICKS

Win matches to earn Insight, then train to master Touch Memory, Switch Card, Shadow Thief, Qi Reading, and the All-Seeing Eye.

Recognize marked hole cards, switch in reserve cards, or see through your opponent's secrets. Each technique changes how you gather information, spend Power, and counter the cheats across the table.

PLAY YOUR WAY TO THE FINAL TABLE

Start with only your card-shaping gift. Earn Insight at the table, train new techniques, and recover between matches. Protect your stack, outplay increasingly dangerous cardsharps, and fight your way to the tournament's final table.
