Here’s a quick guide to Texas Hold'em:

1. Game Objective

Use your two hole cards and the five community cards to create the best possible five-card hand and win the pot (the total chips bet by players).

2. Game Flow

  • Deal Hole Cards:

    • Each player receives two private cards (visible only to them).

  • Betting Rounds:

    • Pre-flop: First round of betting after receiving hole cards.

    • Flop: Three community cards are revealed, followed by a second betting round.

    • Turn: A fourth community card is revealed, followed by a third betting round.

    • River: The fifth and final community card is revealed, followed by the last betting round.

  • Showdown:

    • If multiple players remain, they reveal their hands. The strongest five-card hand wins the pot.

3. Hand Rankings

From strongest to weakest:

  • Royal Flush (A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit)

  • Straight Flush (Five consecutive cards of the same suit)

  • Four of a Kind (Four cards of the same rank)

  • Full House (Three of a kind + a pair)

  • Flush (Five cards of the same suit, not in sequence)

  • Straight (Five consecutive cards, mixed suits)

  • Three of a Kind

  • Two Pair

  • One Pair

  • High Card (No matching cards; highest card wins).

4. Key Terms

  • Hole Cards: Your two private cards.

  • Community Cards: Five shared cards on the table.

  • Pot: Total chips bet by players.

  • Blinds: Forced bets by the two players to the left of the dealer (Small Blind and Big Blind).

  • Call: Match the current bet.

  • Raise: Increase the bet amount.

  • Fold: Surrender your hand and exit the round.

  • Check: Pass the action to the next player without betting (only possible if no bet has been made).

5. Example

  • Your hole cards: A♠ K♠.

  • Flop reveals Q♠ J♠ 10♠ – you have a Straight Flush (A-K-Q-J-10 of spades).

  • Turn and River cards: 2♦ 3♥.

  • Opponent shows Q♥ Q♦ (Three of a Kind).

  • Your Straight Flush wins the pot!
