About the Game

Tactus brings the rhythm-based roguelike genre to authentic retro hardware.

Mount Tempus pulses with a mysterious energy. Delve into its ruins and groove your way to the source of its power. Dance with a variety of weapons, each with its own movement style and quirks. A skill-based chain and combo system rewards mastery. Beware, as the mountain reshapes itself between attempts! No two runs will play out quite the same.

FEATURES

Delightful Chiptune: Featuring the musical talents of 🐁Persune and Zeta, Tactus is sure to have you humming along long after you put down the controller. Music is adaptive, reacting to score each moment.

Weird Magic: Master the alchemical elements of Fire, Ice, Air, and Earth! (One per color palette, for 8bit reasons.) Cast a spell and enemies change their behavior to suit their new type.

Branching Pathways: Forge your own path up the mountain. Each zone comes with its own enemies, hazards and gameplay twists. It's rumored that some zones can only be reached through unconventional means...

Secrets Galore: Hidden chests, unusual enemy variants, cracked walls and bizarre alternate dimensions. Move quickly! You shouldn't be in here, and the mountain isn't keen on letting you stay.

Challenge Modes: Doubletime mode speeds up the clock, sure to challenge even seasoned veterans of the genre. Play with limited health, shattering hearts, weakened weapons and a complete lack of gold to put your gaming skills to the test.

Speedrunning: Tactus includes a built-in RTA timer, immune to lag and designed to match its real-hardware counterpart down to the frame. Patient mode unlocks the rhythm, letting the game move as fast as your fingers.

Accessible Gameplay: Modern features like visual rhythm assist, colorspace compensation and difficulty adjustments allow more players to enjoy the game their way.

Retro Charm: Tactus doesn't just imitate retro limitations, it really does run on that retro console you remember so fondly. The Rainbow mapper helps it to achieve smooth pixel graphics, dynamic lighting, scanline distortions and deep basslines. For those with the hardware to run it, the Rainbow version of the game is included!

Modern Enhancements: The Steam version includes a widescreen mode for modern displays, options to adjust authentic retro behaviors for player comfort, and support for most popular gamepads.
