About the Game

Starway to Urf is a fun, fast paced sci fi comedy with a soft inner core. It is about living with heart and finding friends in a broken universe.

You play as Susie Anyango, a plucky young woman who must escape her job as an intergalactic au-pair before setting off into a broken universe in search of the fabled Starway to Urf, a supposedly green and verdant planet where happy go lucky innocents are cared for by machines of loving grace

  • Befriend other lost creatures

  • Fall in love with the wrong people

  • Do battle with Intergalactic Overlords

  • Make jokes

  • Solve puzzles that push the story forwards, all while missing your dad and wishing you hadn’t been so mean to him.

Inspired by Vonnegut, M Banks and Adrian Tchaikovsky as much as by Rick and Morty, drawing reference from 90s classics such as Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry, the story moves at a fun pace and offers many surprises, all delivered with surreal British humour. Rather than being a throw back to the above references, the themes are up to date and relevant to today's world.

Starway to Urf is a point and click adventure with a modern interface. It has a semi-unique graphical progress system (think The Drifter meets Unavowed) that can be used during normal gameplay to check progress, and during dialogues to discuss key topics with each character. It utilises a one click interaction system (look / use / talk etc) to keep gameplay moving at a healthy clip. It has a groovy, playful synth score.

The full game is made up of 5 acts. The demo takes place during the start of Act 2, so you can get a feel for where the characters have come from, and can get a taste for what is to come.

Starway to Urf is the brain child of Sam Bunn, a solo dev who made many different kinds of art before starting work on games. All the music is made by his old friend and longtime collaborator, Tom Pegg. This game is being made using Power Quest by Dave Lloyd (yes, that Dave!) which is a great place to hang out if you are interested in making your own point and clicker. Being part of that community has been an invaluable part of making this game.

The game is intended to be released in 2028. There is a Discord where you can say hi to Sam and a website where you can check out extra content as the game progresses. There may be a Kickstarter campaign at some point to help fund the voice acting, which is currently only present in the trailer due to financial constraints.
