The "Gloom" is the prize for winning these tournaments, making participation a desperate fight for survival against both other players and the inexorable march of time.

Command your fleet in real-time battles
Supply & demand trade system, affected by piracy, random events, & conflicts. When items are abundant, the prices go down and vice versa.
The world continues to evolve with or without your intervention. Factions will still attack each other, ports will run out of supplies, pirates will go on raids, etc.
