About the Game

  • Explore across a living world map by land, sea and air - inspired by strategy and 4X games.

  • Traditional job-based class system - level up and customize your recruits by mixing abilities, passives, and reactives from over 20 different varied classes.

  • Manage an army of recruits. Pay their wages, feed them, keep them happy, work with or against their union, and deal with their crippling injuries.

  • Liberate towns to generate income, supply them to make them grow, and specialize those towns by constructing buildings within.

  • Establish trade routes, or plunder caravans. Capture lumbermills and farms to supply your army, or refine their raw materials into more valuable products.

  • Plan synergies, like using Geomancy to create high ground for your archers, or freeze and cross rivers using ice magic.

  • Change laws of the land, enforcing powerful passives which will make every run different.

  • Features both procedurally generated and handcrafted equipment. Repair it, bolster it, add slots for gems or infuse your equipment with abilities and elements.

STORY

Scathefire is the story of the last stand of the Cygnets, a Swan-like race of people. They must fight to survive as humans begin to multiply and change the world - destabilizing the Rigdomna, the great rings of fire which adorn the planet. You follow the perspective of Atratus and his group, who journey to bury the final Cygnet eggs - hoping they may hatch in a better world, long after they are gone.

Gameplay

Voxel-based destructible terrain adds an extra level of strategy: Destroy bridges and tear down walls to get inside forts. Blow away half the battle with especially devastating attacks. Use engineering to build ladders and bridges, or a tower for your archers. Change the terrain even further by covering areas in fire, freezing water, or raising a wall of earth to provide cover from projectile-based attacks.

Plan out the towns you liberate with care on a grid-based system - making the most of adjacency bonuses to generate extra income, resources and research. Clear occupied tiles and buy up enclosures to expand your population. Build shops and expand their inventories, construct infirmaries to heal your units, and much more!

About Us

Scathefire - so far - is the dream game of a single developer. While it is inspired at its core by JRPG classics like FF Tactics, Scathefire not content to remain just a homage. The game pulls from many other sources within and outside gaming - from XCOM, Battle Brothers, and Planescape: Torment to the works of Dostoevsky and Hegel. Every wishlist helps bring this labour of love closer to reality. So thank you, gamers.
