About the Game

Superposition

Quantum Dogfight is a guessing strategy game centered around the quantum mechanical principle of superposition.  At the beginning of each game both players place their planes in two distinct locations, as shown below.

Guessing Locations

The core gameplay of Quantum Dogfight is turn-based guessing of each player's plane locations. While in superposition, both locations of a plane can be 'attacked', with the goal of successfully attacking all locations of either locations.

Measurement Collapse

While attacking your opponent's hex tiles is the way to win, players must also monitor their own board and strategically choose when to invoke a 'measurement collapse'.  This action begins a measurement like shown below, which probabilistically chooses one of the two superposition locations to be final location of the plane.  Players will want to utilize measurement collapses to confuse their opponent, but be warned, just like in quantum machanics you can't control probability!

Learning Quantum Mechanics

Quantum Dogfight was designed with young STEM-oriented students in mind, providing a fun and interactive way to learn about elements of quantum mechanics.  Found within Quantum Dogfight is a learning module which helps students understand how principles of quantum mechanics are woven into the mechanics of the game.
