9 itemsAbout the Game
Piecebreaker is a tactical chess roguelike about building a strange, rule-bending army one fight at a time. Draft items, recruit pieces, pick up trinkets, and choose routes through shops, events, treasures, and boss battles as your board mutates from a familiar chess formation into something specific to that run.
Build a New Army Every Run
- Draft items that change how pieces move, survive, capture, and combo.
- Buy or pass on shop offers while managing gold, roster slots, and long-term synergies.
- Collect trinkets that reshape combat across the whole run.
- Choose paths through combat, hard fights, events, shops, treasures, and bosses.
Chess Tactics, Roguelike Pressure
- Win battles by capturing the enemy king or clearing the enemy army.
- Deploy before fights, then solve deterministic tactical boards with the army you built.
- Learn through a guided tutorial, then chase deeper builds across multi-act runs.
The current playtest focuses on the live tactical loop: map routing, deployment, chess battles, rewards, shops, items, trinkets, bosses, settings, and run recap. Balance, content, UX, and presentation are still moving quickly, so feedback from real runs matters.
