8 itemsAbout the Game
n00b's guide is a narrative-focused Walking-Sim told through a pre-teen's YouTube FPS let's-play series. It's an experimental game with no traditional mechanics or goals. It instead invites players to run, slide and shoot through a collection of bizarre in-world mods and community maps as the narrative unfolds.
A Short Experience
The game takes roughly 40 minutes to play through, told from the perspective of a 30-something year old revisiting her cringe YouTube videos that she made with her friends as a tween. You play out the series of let's play videos as the narrator reflects, unravelling what was really important about the time she spent online with her friends.
Retro-Inspired Movement Shooter
n00b's guide features a fun movement system inspired by early shooters and their unintented exploits. Dive, slide, roll and long jump around spaces reminscent of early 2000's community-created FPS maps. The levels are infused with esoteric and poetic in-world 'mods' that subvert expectations of the genre.
A Game About Creative Communities
The game looks at early modding culture and the relationships we form with creative communities; making videos, mods and maps to post online for your friends. n00b's guide is about interrogating the formalisation of play and how we can easily drift from our communities and creative practices.
