About the Game

Set sail in the Southern Isles, where every action shapes the world around you. Trade cargo in a living economy alongside NPC merchants, build and customize ships and structures, forge friendships or rivalries, defend or liberate ports from pirate control, and explore hand-crafted islands - alone or together with friends.

Trade Cargo

  • Use your ship to trade cargo between ports alongside friendly NPC merchants.

  • Each port has a realistic supply and demand model resulting in far or risky trade routes paying favorably.

Interact with Freeport NPCs

  • Every friendly NPC in Merchanteer has a "personality" with different risk tolerances, greed and temper/forgiveness. This influences which trade routes they choose and how they interact with you as the player.

  • Interact with NPCs by talking to them, gifting them items, completing quests or sinking their ships for free cargo, all of which influence your reputation with them.

  • Freeport NPCs have inventories and are persistent, they can go broke or get rich depending on how the game progresses.

Play with Friends

  • Merchanteer features dedicated multiplayer with friends. Join a crew aboard a single ship or man your own vessels as you fight roaming pirates, trade cargo, liberate ports and harvest rare resources together.

Craft Items

  • You can craft ships, cannons, axes and pickaxes. Choosing a wood and metal type to craft with. Whichever combination you choose results in different chances of rare or common materials when harvesting resources, or more damage for a cannon, and more health on a ship.

Harvest Resources

  • Every rock and tree in the Southern Isles is harvestable with an axe or pickaxe.

  • Some islands, underwater regions or weather events yield a greater chance of rare resources with every rock mined or tree chopped.

Fight Pirates

  • Pirate ships will roam the Southern Isles and will attack both you and NPC merchants. Sink them for a reward or flee.

  • Every so often a fleet of pirate ships will raid a port, firing cannonballs upon the port town. You can either defend the port or wait for it to fall under pirate control and then liberate it. When under pirate control ports cannot be traded with and will be surrounded with patrolling pirates.

Discover the history of the Southern Isles

  • Either through exploration, quests or discussion with NPCs discover the meaning and history behind the Southern Isles.

Customize your experience

  • Each server is given its own world size and seed at setup, shaping the number of islands and the layout of the map so that every server offers a unique Southern Isles to explore.
