About the Game

Hear ye, hear ye!
The White King has been kidnapped!

With the kingdom thrown into check, four humble pawns — his faithful royal guards — set out on a long journey to bring him home. To reach him, they will have to cross an ever-changing land where the roads are made of black-and-white squares and familiar chess rules are constantly reshaped by the new laws of the evil Black Queen.

KING 4 A DAY is a small, minimalistic, straightforward roguelike strategy game where every step follows chess-inspired rules.

Movement is simple to understand, but the journey gradually becomes more demanding, with tighter situations, trickier decisions and increasingly brain-teasing encounters standing between your four guards and their destination.

And then there are the laws!

As the journey continues, new laws are introduced that can alter movement, reshape the board, affect enemies or change the way familiar situations work. Some may be helpful. Some may be inconvenient. Some may make you wonder why anyone thought passing that law was a good idea in the first place.

Because levels are procedurally generated and the laws you encounter change from run to run, the road ahead is never exactly the same twice.

The goal is simple: keep moving, adapt to the rules, protect your four guards — who, by royal decree, may move like kings — as best you can, and somehow make it across the kingdom to defeat the Black Queen and set the White King free!
