About the Game

Hoop Dungeon is a basketball turn-based tactics game. In it you will:

  • Use powerful basketball moves like dunks and crossovers

  • Modify moves with customizations like the Wraparound Pass or the Thunder Dunk

  • Develop friendships and rivalries and use them to become a better basketball player.

  • Defeat unique bosses and have them join your roster.

  • Unlock offensive sets.

  • Play multiple perspectives in an anime-inspired storyline.

Turn-Based Tactics

Basketball is an athletic sport. The player who is stronger, faster or can jump higher will always have an advantage over the one who cannot. However, it also a strategic sport and that is part of what Hoop Dungeon wants to explore. I've translated moves into their turn-based equivalents so that the strategy of basketball can shine. Here, scoring is not a question of whether you can outrun or outjump your opponent. In Hoop Dungeon, you score if you can outthink your opponent.

Roguelike

I love how many moves there are in basketball. I love putting them together to make a combination that gets me to the hoop. Turning basketball into a roguelike lets each move get some time in the sun and generate interesting and unexpected combinations of moves that can prove more powerful together than anyone expected.

Friendship and Rivalry

The relationship that sports can generate are different from all others and are what make sports such an important part of life. Your teammates and your opponents are both friends and rivals simultaneously. You want to be better than them and you want them to get better all at once. Hoop Dungeon gives these relationships the space they need to hold this complexity but does so without resorting to cutscenes or other breaks from the action. The entire story is kept on the court, where it belongs, and in the heat of the game, where it is most true.
