Somewhere in modern New York City, the promising young musician Roki Olsen can’t seem to get a single word on the page. He already wrote about everything. What else could he come up with? He pats Betty with a trembling hand, anxiously staring at the blank sheets of paper.

Somewhere else in modern New York City, Elly Hammington is on her couch, watching another bad romantic comedy. After the credits roll, the room is silent again. In these lonely moments, she often wishes she had a dog.
