About the Game

Grief is a competitive, turn-based digital board game for 2–5 players, focused on card play and hand management.
Plan your cards and actions carefully, outmaneuver your opponents, and be the first to complete all five stages of grief represented by unique Grief Tokens.

This experience brings the feeling of a physical board game into the digital space, where every decision can change the course of the game.

Gameplay Overview:

  • Each turn, players may choose only one of three actions:
draw cards, claim a location, or exchange Grief Tokens.

  • Each location can be claimed using unique combinations of card colors and point values. To succeed, players must hold onto the right cards and use them at the right moment.

  • However, your hand size is limited. A poorly timed decision or a missed opportunity can derail your entire strategy. Opponents may act before you, claim your target location, and reshape the balance of the game.

  • When a location is claimed, it awards one or more Grief Tokens, each representing a stage of grief.
The first player to collect all five different stages of grief wins Grief.

Cards and Tactical Decisions:

Cards drawn from five different decks provide not only points, but also special effects.
Some activate when played, some when discarded, and others trigger the moment they are drawn.

Will you hold onto your cards or sacrifice them?
Will you act now, or wait for the right moment to move forward?

Competition and Player Interaction:

Players can directly interfere with each other’s plans:
stealing cards, disrupting turns, breaking hands, or temporarily blocking advantages.

Players who advance too quickly through the stages often become targets, and the balance of power is constantly shifting.

Theme and Atmosphere:

Grief is inspired by the psychological stages of grief, weaving themes of loss and emotional struggle into its core mechanics.

Through a stylized and abstract presentation, the game pairs a dark, restrained visual style with a psychological tone that reinforces every decision the player makes.
