About the Game

You're the new hire in a weird office where they just want you to sort numbers in to buckets. Surely there must be more to the job than that? Sort numbers, earn employee merits, and manage your own team to prove you have what it takes to reach the top in a mysterious corporate workplace.

A short narrative-driven incremental management sim.

Welcome to Halcyon Dynamics, valued colleague.

In your exciting role in our new Digital Processing and Categorisation department you'll be expected to process digits as efficiently as you can. Owing to the nature of the recruitment and workplace commuting procedure, new employees often suffer from disorientation and confusion over their first few days. As a result we have compiled a helpful list of answers to common questions, below.

New Employee Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I process a digit?

Simply click the Correct digits on your computer terminal.

  • How do I know what is a Correct digit?

Your computer terminal will tell you the digits the system currently requires you to process.

  • Are there opportunities for job progression?

That's what we like to see - a go getter! No wonder you were chosen for this department. Your line managers will keep a close eye on your processing metrics and Key Performance Indicators (or "KPIs", a term Halcyon recently coined). If you maintain high standards of work you will be eligible for promotion and will be allowed to begin hiring your own team.

  • Will I receive any management training?

Here at Halcyon we feel that direct training is burdensome and old thinking. Instead you will receive insightful messages and provocations from your line managers. These will be a mix of new, cutting edge, techniques with wisdom that they themselves found useful in your situation. Think of it less like formal training, and more like a mother cuckoo lovingly teaching their nest of chicks the Halcyon family ways.

  • Can I meet my team?

NO! You must not directly meet or communicate with other members of the Halcyon family. This rule was put in place for the mutual protection of our valued colleagues, and attempts to break it will be considered gross misconduct and result in immediate termination. We recognise the value of "water cooler chat" to morale however, so to replace those social situations we have a robust direct messaging service that your line managers will use to send you important missives, and that you and your team can use to "talk". Please be aware that messages are monitored for security purposes.

  • Am I allowed to decorate my work station?

We encourage employees to personalise their work area as studies have shown favourable results both quality and duration of time in the office, but for safety reasons we cannot allow you to bring items in from your own home. Instead we have set up a fun system of employee merits earned through satisfactory work, and a way to spend them on company-endorsed decorations that will brighten up your day and increase your productivity. Managers can even spend their own merits to treat their favourite team members, isn't that wholesome?

  • If I do not enjoy this new role, can I go back to my old job?

Staff rarely leave the Digital Processing and Categorisation department as it is very rewarding work (and because it is very new). If you do decide that you are unfit for such a prestigious role management will discuss your severance package with you directly, so that you can make the correct choice for your future prospects.

  • Why do digits need to be processed, is something weird going on here?

There is nothing weird going on here.

  • Why can't I remember arriving each morning?
