About the Game

You are a billionaire.
Tax season has arrived.
Suddenly, money is a medical emergency.

In Death by Taxes, the only way to survive is to get poor on purpose. Click to buy ordinary things in obscene quantities, unlock faster ways to burn cash, and race your balance to zero before the tax bill catches up with you.

You start with one billion dollars and one very serious problem: it is still yours. Click to buy everyday items in ridiculous quantities, unlock faster ways to spend, and empty your account before the tax bill arrives. Your goal is not to become rich. Your goal is to survive TAXES.

Every terrible financial decision unlocks another. Work through a huge skill tree packed with abilities, stronger clicks, faster purchases, and upgrades that turn casual shopping into an industrial operation. Choose a path, stack its bonuses, and then discover that the tree is much bigger than it first looked.

Coffee, food, cigars, gadgets - anything will do, as long as the money keeps moving. Start with ordinary purchases, then combine skills and abilities until every click sets off an avalanche of waste. The numbers get bigger, the screen gets messier, and your balance finally starts moving in the right direction: down.

Doing all the shopping yourself is terribly middle class. Recruit collectors and other helpful NPCs to buy things on your behalf and keep parts of the spending machine running. They can handle the busywork, but they will not solve everything for you. Stay sharp, use your abilities, and keep the money disappearing.

At the end of every spending segment, someone will try to stop you from making an even worse financial decision. Defeat a unique boss, break through their defenses, and unlock more powerful ways to burn cash. Beat the boss, take the upgrade, and move on to something much more expensive.
