About the Game

Descend into the abyss, where every step confronts the darkness within.

DeAnima is a first-person, turn-based roguelike in the spirit of Rogue and NetHack, with the ruthless depth of the originals. Time only moves when you do. Every dungeon is new, every death is permanent, and almost nothing is explained.

You are a lone wanderer trapped in the Dungeon of Dread, hunting the fabled Crown of Nivek. Find it and you can leave. Whether you should is another matter.

ESCAPE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

Escape with pride. Ascend with virtue. Transcend with peace. Only the first is spelled out. The others have to be found, then earned.

THE DEMONS ARE YOURS

Every monster here is a fear you carried down with you. Kill one and another comes. Eat the wrong corpse and you become the monster: enemies leave you alone, but hunger does not.

SOME BEASTS BEAR WARES, NOT WAR

Hegor feeds. Valac enchants. Midgul sells. Fayora names. Erizul ends. Most of them are spiders. You will work out why.

BUILT FOR EXPERIMENTATION AND MASTERY

  • Nothing carries over but you: No power survives a death, only what you have learned. Escape once and eight hidden roles unlock. Ascend once and Hard Mode opens.

  • 100+ items to identify: Potions, scrolls, wands, rings and bags all start unidentified. Work out what each one is and what it does, and expect some lessons to be expensive.

  • Please your deity or suffer the consequences: Your deity starts every run mildly annoyed with you. Sacrifice at the altar, test your gear for curses, and never pray twice in a hurry.

  • Make a wish: If you find him, a skeleton named Wishbone, your only true friend, will grant a wish for any item you can name.

  • 16 character roles: Rogue, Priest, Valkyrie, Tourist and twelve more, each with unique abilities and traits to master.

  • 15 tracked conducts: Never pray (Atheist), never spend a coin (Miser), eat nothing but corpses (Carnivore). Your Code of Conduct is recorded in the Hall of Fame.

  • Don't linger: Hunger and the Reaper keep you moving.

  • Controller or keyboard: Full controller support, or classic mouse and keyboard.
