About the Game

First released in 1992, Dead of the Brain was one of Japanese developer Fairytale's early forays into the horror genre. Now, over 30 years later, FAKKU has brought this cult classic back from the dead and resurrected it on modern platforms. With gruesome gore and a gritty pixel art style, it's a striking homage to 80's American splatter cinema and zombie B-movies that will bring you back to the days of boxy screens and floppy disks. Will you beat the walking dead and survive this retro nightmare?

When there's no more room in Hell...

One fateful night, the protagonist Cole receives a call from his friend Dr. Cooger. The mad scientist has invented what he calls a "resurrection serum", designed to bring the dead back to life. Although skeptical at first, Cole is convinced after he sees the effects of the miraculous serum for himself. But human hubris is always doomed to fail, and it's not long before things go very, very wrong. Sure, the serum revives the dead, but they return with no trace of their former self—only a terrible hunger for BRAAAAAINS!

When the test subjects escape containment, all Hell breaks loose—literally. The dead rise from their graves as the town is overrun by terrifying zombies! So begins Cole and company's fight for their lives, and a desperate battle to save the world from a doom of their own making.

Will Cole survive this nightmare, or will he end up joining the ranks of the walking dead?

  • A classic retro gaming experience.

  • Genre Fusion: A mix of traditional point-and-click adventure, visual novel, and pulse-pounding survival quicktime events.

  • Gore, grime, and splatter galore!

  • Game Over without losing progress... Don’t worry if you forget to save, if you die you can choose to restart at the beginning of the current scene instead of your last save..

  • FM music to immerse you in the atmosphere–also available as a DLC soundtrack!

  • Optional quality-of-life improvements such as hover hints and hit boxes.

About the New Version

This re-release has gone through many hours of painstaking QA to make sure that it functions as close to the original as possible, with a few added optional quality-of-life improvements. However, please bear in mind that the original game is over 3 decades old, and faithfully recreating it also means replicating the 30-year-old UI and game mechanics, which may seem clunky by modern standards.
