About the Game

You were a medieval unfortunate. Content with your familiar workaday pain.

Suddenly you were stolen away to a floating records bureau in the sky. Required to answer for crimes you've never heard of, infractions that seem irrelevant - by people who aren't even human.

Imprisoned for breaking rules you couldn't begin to fathom, it's down to you to prove your innocence and escape.

However, there is a glimmer of hope. An administrative error has granted you control of the very office which arrested you.

You have the forms which, filled out in good order, guarantee your release.

The poor souls working under you were once in the same position. Now lost to the process, it seems too late for them.

Are you who you say you are? Or is fraud the fastest way out?

Raid nearby departments for office supplies.

Master bureaucratic sorcery such as the staples gun, EBIT darts and double-entry forked lightning.

Bureaucromancer is an XCOM-style turn-based tactical shooter set in a medieval fantasy where rather than magic, they discovered the awesome power of bureaucracy.

Bureacracy grants its wielder incredible powers, but the weapon of the enemy is an alluring one. Can you hold onto your reason and escape unscathed by it?

Once long ago when the world was new, the Royal Record Keeper stumbled across a source of incredible power.

The simple act of writing down could befuddle the masses and transform its daring cataloguers.

He took all the writing he could find up to the tallest tower. Far from the clinging certainties of the earth, it began to fester and grow until the fabric of reality was perverted to fit it and not the Christian doctrine of data following fact.

Over time the tower stood firm - even as the castle crumbled beneath it.

Every loose stone from the castle was added to the tower, until there was no castle and only tower.

Rootless, it took off one windy day and the King would never again get so much as a single stat.

Up up the tower soared.

It became The Chancery.

Just as records demand further records, The Chancery grew and grew.

From the unmanned laboratories emerged strange mechanical administrators, who summoned to the tower many who breached their incomprehensible rules. Even those who served their time struggled to escape, as no provision was made for their return.

These petitioners, trapped between death and taxes, litter the halls wailing and turning on life wherever they find it.

You are determined not to share their fate.
