Boomlegger is a "Foddian" game designed and prototyped in just 5 days for the 2021 Ludwig game jam. Drawing essence from games like Getting Over It, Pogostuck and Jump King, Boomlegger puts you in full control of your destiny, and your sanity, with a difficult but fair schmoovement mechanic.
- Shoot to jump!
You can walk left and right, but the only way up is to shoot your shot-leg downwards and let the massive recoil blast you away from whatever direction you point it.
- Mind the torque!
The shot-leg blasts you upwards, but it's not so easy to control. It'll send you spinning, making it a challenge to line up and time your shots to fly in the direction you're trying to go.
- Make your shots count!
Your shot-leg has 5 shots in its magazine and can only be reloaded once you've landed back on the ground. For many jumps, 5 shots is more than enough, but you'll want to keep an extra shell or two handy to recover from a mistake. If that sounds too forgiving, don't worry, some jumps will require surgical and creative use of all 5 shots.
- Keep your cool!
Failing a jump can sometimes be punishing - there is always a chance of falling back to areas you thought you were done with. But don't fret, this is part of the journey. As you master the way of the shot-leg, you'll find that challenges which once seemed insurmountable have become a walk in the park.
- Buckshot problem solving!
As you ascend further, you'll have to apply your shot-leg in creative ways to break through barriers, activate switches, trigger explosive boost jumps, and more!
Gameplay:
