About the Game

Succeeding in the startup world is like winning a jackpot

You founded a startup. You have a team, a runway, and a slot machine where the reels are your coworkers. Good luck.

Bet on Beta is a roguelike deckbuilder about building a tech company from pre-seed to IPO — one absurd sprint at a time. Each turn, you draft a hand of team-member cards and assign them to the reels. Spin. Resolve. Ship a feature, close a ticket, or watch your Head of Growth trigger a chain reaction that somehow saves the quarter.

There is no persistent machine. Every hand is a new machine. Every run is a new company.

What you'll do

  • Draft your team, turn by turn. Coworkers have synergies, quirks, and opinions. A Senior Engineer next to a Junior Designer does something different than a Senior Engineer next to a VP of Sales.

  • Progress through startup milestones. Tickets become epics. Epics become OKRs. OKRs become funding rounds — pre-seed, seed, Series A, all the way to IPO.

  • Survive investor pitches. Boss fights are pitch meetings. VCs have demands, term sheets, and pattern-matching brains. Read the room, or don't.

  • Each run tells a different story of how a company lives or dies.

  • Exploit unfair advantages by hacking the machine.

The vibe

Hand drawn neo brutalist visuals. Zero mercy for buzzwords. Written by someone who survived 12 years in the tech industry.
