About the Game

Backyard Bayou is a fast, aggressive third-person roguelite shooter. Something ancient woke up in the swamp behind the cabin, and the old man living there has chores to do. He grabs the shotgun, steps off the porch, and goes to clear them out.

SOMETHING WOKE UP IN THE SWAMP

Tentacled horrors, corrupted creatures, and things that should not exist are crawling out of the bayou. Each trip drops you into a shifting stretch of swamp with no waves and no waiting. Enemies keep coming until you find the ritual site, summon whatever answers, put it down, and harvest the corpse. Then you do it again, deeper, against worse.

KEEP MOVING OR GET BURIED

Combat is built around momentum. The harder you fight and the faster you move, the stronger you get, and the swamp answers with more of everything. Dip, duck, dive, and dash your way through rising pressure. Standing still is how old men die.

BUILD SOMETHING THE SWAMP REGRETS

Every run is shaped by what you find. Stack items, chase synergies, and turn a tired old man into something the swamp should have left alone. Choose from over two dozen guns, a shed full of melee tools, and abilities that range from practical to profane. Chests, shrines, and stranger things are scattered through every trip, if you are willing to push away from the safe path to reach them.

GO DEEP ENOUGH AND IT NOTICES

Survive enough trips into the swamp and something big comes looking for a word. Defeat it and make a choice: take the win and end the run, or keep looping into harder territory to see how long an old man's luck holds. Runs land in the 20 to 30 minute range, quick enough to go again, long enough to build something ridiculous.

BRING A FRIEND

Online co-op in Early Access. Invite a Steam friend, split the loot, and clear the swamp together. Experimental for now, with more on the way.
