Introduction
Originally published in GOOD NEWS from September 2014 to June 2017, Wei's Vesper has been adapted into a visual novel by the GOOD NEWS Editorial Department. This immersive experience—spanning over 10 hours—invites players to navigate through a spiritual odyssey of entangled identities. Set against a backdrop of an ever-fresh daily life, players can enjoy the otherworldly atmosphere of a student’s life through ever-changing perspectives.
“At first glance, one might easily mistake Wei's Vesper for yet another interactive novel, one that merely flaunts second-hand knowledge while struggling to answer the question, ‘Who am I?’ with pretentious arrogance. Yet, in those daily conversations crafted with delicate care and while drifting alongside Wei Shi amidst a kaleidoscope-like endless nights and a boundless treasury of experiences, I rediscovered the pure joy of reading itself: a feeling of fulfilment born of generosity, and a sense of ease born of passion. It is like the feeling when the host rises to serve you tea—you will find yourself thinking of many friends. It does not offer a lesson, nor does it promise any surprises; Instead, amidst a relentless exploration of the bizarre and the exotic, it feasts the reader upon a buffet of curiosities. It is a work both linear and cyclical, a work both boisterous and lonesome, a work that constantly pulls faces at you, yet you just cannot help but cherish it. Though it might seem, at times, insufficient in its intellectual judgment and bear visible traces of a writer’s apprenticeship, Wei's Vesper is, without a doubt, a work worth reading—a supplement to a perspective too hastily discarded."
