About the Game

One move, 16 reactions. Every piece obeys a fixed rule. And they all move the instant you do.

Welcome to AfterMove, a punishing minimalist grid puzzle game built on pure spatial logic.

Some pieces step. Some charge two squares. Some cut diagonally or leap in geometric L-shapes. Some move opposite to you, and some don't move at all. Meanwhile, one unique piece — the Chaser — utilizes a pursuing AI pathfinding rule to track your coordinates. Learn the mechanical loops, and the board starts to make sense. But with up to 16 pieces reacting simultaneously on a tight 6×6 grid, finding the optimal line is a deep tactical challenge.

Simple Rules, Real Depth

The objective is always clear: reach the goal square. Made a mistake? Miscalculating a layout is part of the process, but correction is instant—the Undo tool is just one keypress away. Experiment freely, backtrack without penalty, and try again. The challenge is pure grid geometry, and the winning path is always there — you just haven't discovered it yet.

The Chaser: Turning Deterministic Geometry into a Puzzle Solution Tool

The Chaser introduces dynamic complexity. Each turn, its fixed rule dictates a single step toward your coordinates—always closing the bigger gap first, either horizontally or vertically. It resets the level if it successfully occupies your square. You cannot outrun its deterministic tracking forever on a tiny 6×6 board; you must outwit its geometry.

Route around it, lure it into a structural wall, or block its movement vector with another piece. The first time you encounter a Chaser layout, it will test your spatial awareness. By the end of the game, you will be manipulating its exact mathematical ruleset to solve the level for you.

Choose Your Mindset: Two Gameplay Modes

  • Casual Mode: Move one step at a time. React, learn, undo, and test patterns across 120 levels spanning four escalating difficulty tiers. Perfect for finding your footing.

  • Expert Mode: Commit your full movement plan before anything executes. Input two to six steps sequentially all at once, hit execute, and watch the board update with zero corrections. 71 elite tiers of pure logic execution.

Fair and Deterministic by Design

Every single layout is solver-verified and guaranteed solvable. The mechanics never change — only your structural understanding of them does. Walls block absolute movement paths permanently. Inverted pieces move in exact mathematical opposition to your inputs. The line is there. Can you see it?

Full Game Features:

  • 180+ Hand-Curated Layouts: Zero procedural randomness. Every level is a hand-curated logical trap.

  • 16 Distinct Piece Behaviours: From static blocks to pathfinding Chasers and inverted pieces.

  • Play It Your Way: Full native compatibility for keyboard, mouse, or gamepad controllers.

  • No Artificial Blocks: Jump between Casual and Expert modes freely. No win-streaks required.

  • Premium Quality-of-Life: Abstract themes, colorful palettes, instant undo, score attack tracking, and smart hints when you're truly stuck.

About the Developer

AfterMove is the debut video game from Colin Ord, author of Magic Moving Images — an animated optical illusion book that sold over 50,000 copies. This game shares that exact same lifelong fascination for hidden rules, abstract patterns, and geometry that snaps vibrantly alive the moment you finally understand it.
